The Night of Power

The night of power or as it is called in Arabic is the Lailatol Qadr, is believed to be the night when prophet Mohammad received the entire Quran in that night by heart from Gabriel.

Muslims are to fast this entire month and observe the Night of Power on the possibility of happening in either the 19th, 21st, or 23rd of this month. But why do Muslims have to observe this night if it was a special occasion for Prophet Mohammad? It is because that any human could experience the same fate as the prophet, if they follow his footsteps!

After forty nights of lent in Rajab and Shaban the soal is ready to receive the enlightenment by God in Ramadhan. That is why Rajab is the month of Cleansing (Takhali-تجلی), Shaban is the month of Beautifying (Tahali-تحلی) and Ramadan is the month of Glowing (Tajali-تجلی) and this enlightenment and glow will be received in one of these nights. Although the same experience could happen in any other time and month depending on the human experience, but these special month and occasions have communal and social importance and effect that are hidden in the blessing of these months.

So what is expected in the Night of Power?

It is believed that our fate is decided and God’s will is enforced in this night for the entire year. Whether it is wealth being distributed or blessing dispersed, this night is the night to beg and please God for attention and extra mercy. The most valuable blessing a person could pray for is wisdom. The light we are awaiting for in these nights is the light of discovery and brighten mind. In many Islamic literature, a bright mind and a wise thought is described as a light from God that will be bestowed upon worshipers to find their path and success in life both this world and hereafter.
